This role requires outstanding subject knowledge, a passion for mathematical thinking and a commitment to stretching students academically through a ‘teach to the top’ ethos. The successful candidate will play a formative role in establishing a Mathematics Department defined by precision, depth, confidence and academic excellence, preparing students for success in IGCSE and A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics. The Teacher of Mathematics will be expected to contribute to the wider academic and cultural life of this British independent school overseas, always modelling the highest professional standards and the Charterhouse Values. Teaching and Learning Deliver engaging, intellectually ambitious and carefully structured Mathematics lessons that reflect the school’s ‘teach to the top’ philosophy. Teach across the full age and ability range, preparing students for excellence in IGCSE, A-level and Further Mathematics. Plan and implement rigorous schemes of work in collaboration with departmental colleagues. Maintain consistently high expectations of student achievement, effort and behaviour. Use assessment data intelligently to track progress, provide precise feedback and inform next steps in learning. Develop students’ confidence, fluency and mathematical reasoning, encouraging intellectual curiosity and independence. Contribute to the development of a challenging Mathematics curriculum aligned with the National Curriculum of England, local rigour and Charterhouse academic standards. Support appropriate academic acceleration and stretch, including enrichment and extension pathways for the most able mathematicians. Work with the Head of Mathematics to uphold high academic standards and support accreditation and inspection processes (COBIS, BSO, Charterhouse UK). Pastoral Care and Co-Curricular Involvement Take an active role in the pastoral life of the school, ensuring pupils feel known, supported and challenged. Actively contribute to the co-curricular programme through activities such as Mathematics enrichment clubs, competitions, problem-solving sessions or Olympiad preparation. Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection in line with UK and local requirements. Model the Charterhouse Values of Kindness, Perseverance, Responsibility, Moral Courage and Open-mindedness in all interactions. Professional Engagement Participate fully in departmental and whole-school meetings, contributing constructively to professional dialogue. Engage actively in professional development and appraisal processes, demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement. Collaborate closely with colleagues to ensure consistency, coherence and shared academic ambition across the department and school. Safeguarding, Welfare and Professional Responsibilities Always promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people. Maintain good order, discipline and care for students both on and off site. Follow all school policies relating to safeguarding, child protection, health and safety. Attend safeguarding and professional training as required. Report any safeguarding concerns promptly to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
